The Sound Of Silence (1964 Wednesday Morning, 3 AM)
* Recorded at Guest House Studios; Phoenix Arizona
Many of these tunes just wanted to do anyway but some of the kookier ones
are old inside-jokes with silly and often rather dark lyrics yikes...
Many almost-religous references he wrote into some of these for some reason (?!?!)
However, this project was chosen mainly for the "poetic" attributes...)
Have to intentionally mangle Garfunkle's one-of-a-kind angelic vocals so there.)
(...perfect example of changing these nice, sweet songs into screaming rock...)
(...there was really an electric piano doing those hooks, used an organ instead...)
(...wait and see how many songs he wrote about suicides, my goodness...)
(...the two sections of 6/8 was not original, just invented for the hell of it...)
(...one of those inside jokes from the original record was referring to...)
(...3 original acoustic versions of this, what came out was early-folk-wave mix...)
(...another transformed from sweet acoustic into yelling and distorted guitars...)
(...made-up bridge in the middle just to try to stretch it out a bit longer...)
(...yet another rocker was originally just sweet 2 nylon guitars, stand-up bass...)
(...an attempt at trying to hit high notes without resorting to falsetto...)
(...good example of simple original instrumentation gone wild...)
(...critics gave it 'Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine' different meanings...)
(...a personal favorite where Paul didn't sing and was just Art's by himself...)
(...had to totally turn it into bg western-alt-rock a step-and-a-half lower...)
(...fun to remake these sweet, slow ballads, the 12/8 Pauls, the cellos mine...)
(...this is actually version #2 of the two versions initially worked tracks on...)
(...and couldn't decide which to finalize; either/both/neither, so far did this one...)
