Once there was a time- I wasn't scared - I wouldn't see
right 'fore my eyes - so many times, I wouldn't know
intentions for me - couldn't be true - hadn't a clue - couldn't be true.

Now that I look back - how did I know - how to suspect
feelings weren't real, my heart you could steal -
and rip it apart - but never again - I'm keeping my heart
never again - I'm keeping my heart.

You spoiled it for me - begging God please - help to get you
out of my mind, so I can go on - until such a time - I trust again
but doubt if I do ever trust again - doubt if I do - ever trust again.

Once there was a time.

So, see what we've done - neither has won - how we both lost
at such a cost, priced very high - maybe you more than I -
now I know - once there was a time - I wasn't scared
