Note, how to safely remove (?) the data drive
and leave the computer running, locate the system tray.

The system tray includes the system time in the bottom right.
Icons to the left of the time, one of the icons will be an icon
with a green arrow on it.

Left click on this icon and wait. A rectangle will appear
with the the words "safely remove" and stop,
find the drive letter for the device, left-click on the appropriate device
with the drive letter matching the one used by the drive.

After a few seconds windows will give you a message
It is safe to remove the device, click "ok" to this message.
The drive can then be powered down and unplugged.
