• Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I play an mp3?

  • Because of the default settings on some browsers; left-clicking an mp3 on the bg site (Lo-Fi Clip) or (Hi-Fi Song 0:00) will probably start qwiktime basic player in the [Discography] frame (window/tab). If you left-click another link on the left frame of this site your qwiktime song will stop. If you right-click and (Open In New Tab/Window) it will play until the song ends (probably with a few seconds of delay at the beginning. Please see Technical for more information on how to change the qwiktime basic player.

  • Is that you singing all the parts?

  • Unless otherwise specified, yes, best as possible in allotted time window. Playing all the instruments too. Drum tracks recorded separately for a less-machine-like feel.

  • Why do the vocals seem so soft / low?

  • Most of the recordings on this site are generally intended to feature the guitar (and bass) techniques, composition, arranging and digital multi-tracking production values as demonstrations. It is also unusual-sounding for one long-time smoker, marginally seviceable vocalist to try to sound like different singers on the recordings. Only Todd Rundgren can do that. (Reading lyrics along with them helps...)

"The lyrics were fantastic, even though we didn't know what he was saying half the time."
--- John Lennon (1940-1980) (on Chuck Berry, In_The Beatles Anthology_)

  • Are any of the guitars for sale?

  • No.

  • Are you going to do another "Beatles Basics" instrumental album?

  • Maybe. Am just going to finish a Todd/Utopia thing first. Take requests later. Not at this time. Maybe next year. Maybe two!

  • Are you going to do another "Christmas Instrumentals" album?

  • Yes, No, Maybe. Started on half of it. Yes. Working on it. Hope to get it done soon.

  • How do I obtain any of the CDs?

  • There are no more pre-packaged CDs. Thank all of you who bought "Christmas Instrumentals" and "Dead Pet Names" CDs in the beginning. If you want a CD email a request with about 15 or 20 original/xmas tunes you want that will fit on a disc, and as a bonus to you select one free demo album (for your individual review only) use PayPal or mail a check for a reasonable/customary donation and they will be custom made, dated and signed. Please see Obtain for more information.

  • Can I acquire any of the artworks?

  • Yes. If you just have to have one please see Obtain for more information. (Am not letting them go away for next-to-nothing anymore). Also am not participating in "First Fridays" in the forseeable future anymore after a few years ago with the Black Friday 2005 Phoenix City and condo developer bullshit unless am exhibiting/showing at a specific gallery. Notice of that show will be ad/blurbed and you may come and view the artworks.

  • Why isn't there a standalone player on here?

  • Because want no ads, cookies, phlash association, extra coding, etc., on here and most importantly would rather you experience the real Hi-Fi mp3 conversions than the often-compressed "Less-Fi" versions some standalone players provide you on other sites. Here you have your own control over how you want to hear the tunes with your own player and EQ settings etc., however you want. Good headsets and/or a decent computer speaker system with subwoofer recommended.

  • Can I get on a list to be advised of updates?

  • Yes and No. This site does not collect any information regarding mailing lists for visitors and does not have a bg yoohoo group anymore or facebook (yes there is, opened it back up just because everyone has to have one even against their will) .facebook. However, about monthly there is an ad/blurb posted to a bgFreeMp3 myspace bulletin and some of the yoohoo groups, other lists, forums and sites in the Links section. To read them just add bg at MySpace44488079 for the news or email to request the monthly updates in your mail. Or just come back and visit a couple times a month either here or there.

  • Why don't you charge for your mp3 downloads?

  • Because 1) simply want them to be free, 2) they were not produced in a million dollar studio with session players and pro vocalists and engineers and a $300,000 budget, 3) can't charge individually for any of the cover demos albums individually. They are free only to those businesses, organizations, persons and schools listed in the FreeCDs link because they are cover demos.
